In 1986 we began the garden, which had previously been a very interesting collection of mainly brambles and nettles. The first task was to clear the site and carry out the hard landscaping. This included digging out the large pond to take advantage of the natural stream which runs through the bottom of the garden. We imported some very large stones from a local quarry to form the rockery.
Working to an outline plan, most of the area was grassed over to allow the planting to take place over subsequent years. Our initial objective was to have a low maintenance garden, but the plant bug got hold of us.
Gradually we extended the planting schemes and introduced new elements such as the stream garden. More recently we have built a summerhouse and started reworking the woodland area.
